January 11,
2006 - The Crookston Vitality Project Steering Committee and various
CVP Sector Group leaders invite the public to a "Showcasing the
Future" event at Crookston High School on Monday, Feb. 6 that
will feature the latest and most detailed drawings of the proposed
community center/arena.
The event will be similar to an event hosted by CVP leaders in the
fall of 2004 at CHS that updated citizens on goals and objectives that
had been identified. At that meeting, attendees were able to sign up
for various Sector Groups, which in the months afterward met and identified
numerous goals, some of which have been met.
Oh, and they also
got to eat a lot of local food, provided by local eateries as part
of a "Taste
of Crookston."
There will be just as much food on Feb. 6, too, and some local entertainment
as well.
The evening's agenda
is still taking shape. But it looks like things will start at 6 p.m.
in the CHS auditorium with an update on what all
the sector groups have been up to. That update will include the latest
on the proposed community center/arena, courtesy of Parks, Recreation & Natural
Resources Sector Leader Craig Morgan.
Attendees will then adjourn to the commons area, where they'll get
to eat and also provide input, in written form and also by applying
sticky dots next to CVP priorities they most agree with. They'll also
get to see the latest drawings of the proposed community center/arena,
and fill out a quick survey seeking their opinions on the initiative.
Although it's not official, CVP leaders are hoping to make the event
more of a family atmosphere by utilizing CHS Leo Club members to provide
games and other activities for kids in the gymnasium during the evening's
opening session. Then the kids would join their parents to eat in the
commons.
The event is expected to wrap up by 8 p.m. The Times will provide
more details as Feb. 6 approaches, including a list of all the CVP
Sector Groups, the goals they've identified, and what they've accomplished.
